#19 MIA TOGO, SENIOR UK/USA YOGA TEACHER & LIFE COACH
Mia Togo ( @miatogo) is a YogaWorks senior teacher, teacher trainer, 300-hour mentor and leads yoga retreats and workshops around the world. She recently moved to London fort he USA, now teaching in triyoga
Mia creates a space for her students to explore their truth - a place where they can remember that their worth does not need to be earned, bought, or outsourced, because true love comes from within. In a world where we are taught to push away discomfort and attach to pleasure, she encourages students to honor what is coming up, rather than override it.
Life is full of challenges and every season we move through is a gift to honor, to move through mindfully, and live from a space of truth and love.
WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT
The importance of doing our inner work and diving deep in order to heal /// Navigating the social media world and promoting ourselves authentically /// How the ‘good vibes only’ mindset isn’t realistic, and that ‘bad’ feelings are not ‘bad’ /// How doing ‘fancy poses’ and having lots of followers on Instagram doesn’t always translate to having more students in class /// Owning our shadow and the parts of ourselves we don’t like /// Depersonalising other people’s projections /// Physical ‘rinsing’ as a tool to manage painful emotions /// Allowing students to struggle in helping them to learn /// How adversity helps us to grow
QUOTES
‘Yoga is an artfulness of opening those lines of communication from within.’
‘One of the biggest gifts we can give ourselves as teachers is to depersonalise other people’s stuff.’
‘You gotta learn how to drop into your pain and work it!’
‘The practice is dropping into what I’m feeling, because there’s a truth in there that I need to learn.’
‘You get to a point that you’re so sick of your own b******t that you’ll do whatever it takes, even if it’s hard.’
‘I like who I am now. Even the shadowy parts, because that’s what makes me who I am. Not everyone’s going to like me... But I’m not changing me to accommodate other people.’
‘Your struggles are where you learn.’
