#128 - LUCY LORD - Simple made special recipes
Lucy Lord (@lordlucy) is a recipe creator, food photographer, and yoga enthusiast based in Cheltenham, UK, but reaching hundreds of thousands online . Her focus is on making food feel doable and joyful—whether it’s a quick midweek dinner, a celebration cake, or a fresh twist on the basics. Her “simple made special” approach inspires confidence in the kitchen and invites creativity without overwhelm.
Self-taught in both cooking and photography, Lucy first fell in love with food while working a demanding sales job in her 20s. Years living in Sydney sparked a love for balance, slow living, and nourishing rituals that now shape her work. She completed her yoga teacher training in 2019 and though she doesn’t teach formally, the practice continues to ground and inspire everything she creates.
She shares new recipes weekly through her Supper Club email and on lordlucy.com. She’s also the co-founder of Slow Sundays—a wellness platform making yoga, creativity, and movement more accessible for all.

NOTABLE QUOTES
On balancing personal taste with audience demands:
"Sometimes I’ll add ingredients I don’t even love—like tofu—just because I know my audience wants it. But I always find a way to make it so I actually enjoy it too."
On food photography and impact:
"A mediocre recipe with a great photo will always get more views than a delicious dish with a bad one. It’s wild—but true."
On outsourcing and letting go:
"The scariest part of outsourcing is losing control over your creative baby—especially when you’ve built every part of it yourself."
On community and connection:
"Sometimes the only real connection I have in a day is through a newsletter reply. But those messages—they keep me going."
On burnout and baking:
"There are times I’ve finished a big project and just eaten beans on toast for a week straight. That creative battery needs recharging."
On embracing imperfection and growth:
"The only constant in this work is change. You can resist it, or you can adapt and find your own rhythm in the chaos."
On recipes vs. real life:
"People assume I’m cooking gourmet meals three times a day. I’m not. I’ll happily eat Thai curry for breakfast if that’s what’s in the fridge."
On healthy eating with realism:
"I used to make high-protein brownies with whey powder... but I always ended up eating three. Now I just eat one proper brownie and enjoy it."
